'Simple and Happy' ways to be Rich

Hard work vs. Smart work for success and Personal Finance

Hard work vs Smart work

This is an interesting question; to succeed in life and to have better Personal Finance, which is needed- hard work or smart work? Many opine that it is desirable to combine both depending upon the circumstances and time. There is no one answer for this question and let me give my views.

In the initial stages, when one is learning the ropes, it is better the person puts in a lot of hard work. He (or she) should not leave any stone unturned to learn and implement new knowledge and wisdom. The person should grab all opportunities even if it means burning the midnight oil.

After the person gathers experience and confidence, he should choose the area or line of activity that gives him high level of satisfaction. Once he starts doing what he likes most, he will feel that he is not doing any hard work not only because he has gained experience but also because he loves his work. There may be imbalances in his overall life but he should not allow it continue indefinitely. Here comes the role of the mentor, who can guide the person as to when and where to draw the line through concepts like True Wealth.

It is interesting to note that when you are mentored by a competent and experienced person, you are doing smart work most of the time and hard work only when required. So in addition to your own experience and passion in your chosen line of activity, you have your mentor’s guidance. It is true leveraging and virtually a shortcut to one’s success in life.

Now coming to Personal Finance, by now most of you know that I am a strong advocate of having a financial mentor, who can save years of hard work for you. You can learn and implement how to catapult your success in Personal Finance through simple and powerful tools like the Power of compounding and using your mind for attracting prosperity. My personal view is that you need not do separate hard work for succeeding in Personal Finance.

In summary, hard work is needed in early stages of one’s career and subsequently it should be need-based. Even after years of experience, if you feel the strain, you need to spend more time with your mentor. Let me end this on a lighter note. I know a few people who hardly work and for them this blog is not required. So in the debate on ‘hard work or smart work’, I know one answer that is not applicable- ‘No work’.
