By now, most of us know the importance of association. As learned people say, “Association can make or break a person.” Let us discuss the positive side of association in your road to be rich. It is not just the learning from good friends as much as what you put into your mind through them or by them. You can even call this subtle peer pressure to be rich. Let me give the examples of in my own life how two of my friends inspired me.
The first person belongs to my fraternity of Chartered Accountants. Even during academics he was brilliant. Teachers used to respect him for his knowledge and participation in the classes. He was in practice as a Chartered Accountant for more than two decades and handled the audit of a few companies with excellent brand names. In the last 10 years, he has been associated with a multinational client organisation guiding them not only in Finance & Accounting but also in their growth strategies. I make it a point to meet him at least once a month & the subtle peer pressure inspires me in my journey to be rich and possibly in my journey to the Richest.
Another person whom I am proud to write about was my neighbour from 1967 to 2001. He bought my uncle’s land next to our house in 1967 and constructed his house. He was elder to me by 40 years and virtually my grandfather. I always felt that he was positive and helpful to many who came into contact with him. The greatest aspect about his wealth building was that he built his houses only after his retirement. The house, he built next to our house, grew 240 times in value in about thirty five years’ time. So the subtle and unspoken message from this great man was, "You are never too old to build your fortunes." I am optimistic that this will inspire some of the middle-aged people, who complain that they are not young.
I have been so fortunate to be inspired by a few other people, who look deceptively simple but are truly great in their career & financial success. I am sure you will also have such role-models. You may like to mentally or physically note down how they have inspired you.
Of course, there is another angle to this. Why only take inspiration? How about inspiring others? Why not make it great in our lives and inspire or create subtle peer pressure for people around us! In summary, create peer pressure on yourself to be rich by choosing the right association as well as become the source of peer pressure by your own success. You will agree that you are only a decision away from doing this. You will be truly rich by this simple and powerful decision.
Let us talk about the lighter side of 'peer pressure.' A rich lady celebrated her 102nd birthday. One of her neighbours asked her, "You seem to enjoy your wealth and success even though you are 102 years. What is the secret?" The lady replied, "What I enjoy most at 102 years is there is no peer pressure!"
